I have spent sometime publishing blogs. I usually use blogger.com and I only have one wordpress blog that I host on my own servers.
Being a blog owner, I am always on the lookout for ways tp drive traffic to my blog and my websites. Basically I preffer the free traffic.
I have read many manuals that point to the fact that web 2.0 is a new trend that is here to stay. I am not an expert on web 2.0 but I know it involves social bookmarking sites where individuals share the sites that they find interesting, with their friends.
I have used social bookmarksites such as digg.com and reddit.com before. However, without a button, it can be very time consuming to type in each social website. So I started looking for services that can help me to send my blog to tens of social sites at once and increase my blog link popularity search engine traffic as well as siphon off some traffic from these bookmarking sites. During my search, I came accross http://www.onlywire.com and this proved very useful to me as it allowed me to bookmark my blog to over 15 social sites with only a click of a button. This was very great and for the time I used it, I was getting lots of traffic to my pages. However, onlywire.com does not have some of the important sites such as digg, reddit, technorati and others. so I wanted another button. Along the way, I came accross http://www.socialize-it.com . with socialize-it, I could add my blog to over 50 sites. But the code was so difficult to install and then tweak arround to start working with my blog. Plus it had some other difficulties which I hope J.P Schoefel can fix soon because he has a good team of coders.
Then, while surfing on a squidoo lens that was talking about a genuine data entry jobs website, I noticed a bookmark button that is used by squidoo.com . This button is call the addthis button. I tried it and I immediately fell in love with it. This button is simple to use.
With this simple to use tool, webmasters and blog owners can easily create 2 different buttons to add to their site that helps visitors to bookmark the intended website, or blog. With just one button, visitors are taken to a page with a wide variety of social bookmarketing websites world wide.
At addthis.com,there are 2 different types of buttons:
Browser BookMarks
RSS Feed BookMarks:
With a simple copy & paste code, these two buttons can be added to anywhere within your blog.
At the momment, they say that thir code supports blog platforms such as blogger, wordpress and typepad. But they will add other platforma later. So for blogger users, this can be a piece of gold as it is already proving to be for me.
AddThis.com has added enough social bookmarking websites to please everyone. No longer do you need to add multiple little images within the pages of your site/blog which ultimately increases the loading time for your blog. Now you can simply add one button and never have to worry about using up valuable space.
The AddThis.com service is free to use and you need to create your own buttons. AddThis.com offers visitor stats for your buttons, they come "as is". With an account from AddThis.com, you can easily track how many times visitors have clicked on your buttons, where they were generated from, and whether or not people have actually added your site to their bookmark favorites.
This feature alone is very important as it lets you know the fruits of your effort.
I there fore urge you all blog owners to keep blogging and writing your heart out. Always look for new and creative tools to help you get the word out about your blog and website if you have one. These tools are a great way to connect with visitors, I personally recommend AddThis.com hands down.
other services you can use include
http://www.socialise-it.com
http://www.addtoany.com
http://www.onlywire.com
Those are the ones I can give at the momment. However, if you have any other tool you would like to recommend, feel free to leave a comment below. Plus if you have found this post helpful, why not make a donation to me using the paypal donate buttons on the left. I will be very grateful .
